Nationalists Win Governor/Lt. Governor of NM Girls' State + State General Election Results

Nationalists Win Governor/Lt. Governor of NM Girls' State
Kyra Ellis-Moore
Governor, Nationalist Party
Platform: Opport(unity)
As candidate of the Nationalist Party I have been striving to promote our party's primary goals of responsible environmentalism, increased funding for public education, increased job security, public health, and food programs for the hungry.  On a more personal level, I chose to run for governor in order to become a more intrinsic part of this Girls State experience and to represent and serve the extraordinary group of girls that this is. Thank you to everyone who voted for the Nationalists. I am very excited to serve in this office.

Ryan A. Armijo
Lt. Governor, Nationalist Party
Platform: Opport(unity)
Our nationalist party decided to stand on the platforms of becoming more environmentally friendly, providing more opportunities in education and the workforce for citizens, and providing accessible healthcare along with helping to feed the hungry. I do believe that each of these issues are extremely important and I am glad to represent the Nationalists in working towards these goals.

Angela Maestas
Candidate for Governor, Federalist Party
Platform:  Energy Solution, Education, Equality, Goverment Power, Veterans Benefits, and American Adoption
We had many platforms, and our main goal was to find a way to solve them in the best possible way we could. We were going for a safe and viberant state. I had ran for governor to be a leader and the voice of the girls. "Go Big Or Go Home"

Rebekkah Esquivel
Candidate for Lt. Governor, Federalist Party
Platform: Energy Solution, Education, Equality, Goverment Power, Veterans Benefits, and American Adoption

Angela and I planned to run together from the beginning. I have experience in leadership back home and I wanted to bring that experience to Girls' State.

Mileva Gacanich: Hi! Waz up peoples of this great girls state! Yesterday was our very first day, How bout that ride in… haha guess that’s why the call it sin city huh? Anyway… well what do you say about the first day. The first day reminded me of girl scout camp. Lots of singing and jumping around. We got to know more about each other at our dorm meeting. Pretty sure we were all a bit shy but we seem like we got past that.
Opening ceremonies was pretty fun even though we didn’t seem to know what we were doing for the chant :P after a while we were waiting for dinner, we played some games and sang some songs.
At dinner and the evening session we got to know our government advisor, and got to know more about what we are doing here at girls state.
Rec time was fun I don’t know how but I ended up doing PT with the ROTC girls. Did so many psh ups that my arms were pretty much useless.
So! That was my first day in Pine City, Girls State. And all that I have left to say in this is God Bless America and that this is a great state of girls state.
Pine City Rocks my Socks.

Brittany Scee: My experience here at girls state so far has been good. We dove right in to starting to run for offices and begin learning the process it takes to actually run for a position in your city.

Araceli Artaleje: Breakfast was very satisfying, God and Country was educational. The songs we sing during roll call are enjoyable. Learning about every job in government is long but fun. I have met such amazing girls. I am in Pine City. I have Pine Pride! At first I was afraid I wouldn’t fit in with people, but I found out several girls I related to quickly. The girls here are extremely nice and friendly. I am glad to be here!

Melinda Medina: Girls State is a good experience so far. You get to meet a lot of new people by doing different events. You also learn about the government and how it works.

Alison Jones: The first day of girls state was really fun. Me and my roommate hit it off really cool as are all the other girls in my city. I’m really looking forward to the rest of the week.

Samantha Homler: So… how about that ride in I guess that’s why they call it Pine City. Girls State 2010, best there’s been.

Minerva Borunda: So far it’s been really cool here girls state. I am having fun and I and I met so many girls =-}.

Sage city citizens have had a busy day. Sage has elected their city officials. Congratulations!! Our new mayor is Vanessa Armenta. Sage citizens have developed a song and are working on the flag and seal.
The citizens enjoyed the community forum and speaking their opinions. Poppy story was sweet and meaningful to all of Sage citizens. The citizens of Sage are learning how city government works.

A song was designed by the citizens.
Sage city citizens attended opening ceremonies. Sage citizens participated in a game called “Ride That Pony” and “Little Sally Walker.”
Out J.C. counselor: Laura presented the flag at opening ceremonies and lead the girls in songs.
Our Government counselor: Jan, did the invocation and Auxiliary Department 1st Vice President is also Jan Samrall.

Dorm Counselor

Our first day at Girls State was a whirlwind of learning and fun. After setting up our dorm rooms and getting acquainted with our roommates, the Girls State delegates had opening ceremony. All of the delegates were dressed very professionally, showing that we are mature and willing to learn and gain the skills needed to become our country’s future leaders.
This is the 63rd of Girls State, having a lot of the staff returning year after year to train the delegates with pride. They spend all year working on ways to advance the program while keeping the traditions. Cafeteria food dinner consisted of pizza, salad, or hamburger and most of the girls said it was pretty good. Long lines for ice cream, and ketchup and mustard were the obstacles of the evening.
Petitioning for positions such as city clerk, municipal judge and city councilman, the delegates began their learning journey about government one level at a time. After that delegates headed back to their dorms to campaign. Markers, construction paper and tape, oh yeah! Posters all over the dorms! 7:15 breakfast, dedication to God and Country then back to classes to learn about the next level, Country Government

Pine City
The girls are having a wonderful time. Our junior counselors posted the colors and they looked great. So nice we have so many returning from last years session. Must have enjoyed it (lol).
Opening ceremonies were pretty awesome too. This is the 63rd session and most of the staff have returned yearly.
Teaching the songs and helping the girls are duties we all do with great pride, following these traditions and advancing this program is something we work on all year long.
Our government counselors and office staff are always busy. First day of cafeteria food and most girls said it was good. There was a line at the ice cream corner about a mile long. Their favorite dessert it looks like.
Classes and petitions went very smoothly and then back to the dorms for campaigning: constitution paper, markers and tape. Oh yeah, 7:15 their headed for breakfast, then our god and country, then back to classes and here we go again.
